Here are all the ways besidess great air filters you can protect your home from allergens.

  1. Remove all carpets and curtains, I recommend roller blinds instead.

  2. Always run the air conditioner or heater and replace the filter monthly. I recommend the Filtrete brand. This means leaving windows and doors closed.

  3. Use free and clear laundry soap. My 2 favorites are Perisil and Tide. All also has one.

  4. Wash bedding in eucalyptus oil. Just a couple of drops in the wash will kill dust mites.

  5. Do not use fabric softener. Even the free of dyes and perfumes ones have a waxy substance they leave on clothes that attract dust and dander.

  6. Use an allergy protection mattress protector and pillow protectors

  7. Make sure no pillows or furniture has feathers🪶 or allergens in them.

  8. Sweep and dust daily. My favorite drymop cuts down on putting dust into the air. I love the Swiffer dusters because you don't have to use a spray to use, and it keeps the allergens away from your face because you can use the wand. I love the Bissell Cleanview Swivel or Shark Rotator Lift Away. I know it is unrealistic to do it every day, but at least once a week.

  9. Clean any area rugs weekly.

  10. After you sweep and dust "wet" the air with a mist of water to drive the dust particles to the ground.

  11. Use couch covers that can be removed easily and washed or buy a leather couch.

  12. If Claritin doesn't work for you, Zyrtec most likely will, and it should be taken daily to avoid flare-ups.

  13. Remove shoes, jackets, and sweaters at entry to the house to avoid bringing allergens in. Get a good door mat for outside, too.

  14. Shower or bathe daily, even the hair(at least rinse it with water).

  15. Believe it or not, a dog helps tame allergies and get a dog.

  16. You can now test at home for allergies to make sure your garden doesn't have plants you're allergic to. If you are, I recommend removing those plants.
