What to Buy for Your New Vinyl Floors

Yes, your new vinyl floors need some special things to prevent damage. For rugs that you can find at benable.com/Mrsbargainsrecommends/rugs, you will need a natural fiber pad, so the rug won't slip. Here are 2 pads. I recommend the Mohawk pad or this pad

The rug pads come in multiple sizes to fit any rug, or you can buy the large rug pad on sale and cut to size. For additional stay puttiveness, add these corner weights https://amzn.to/3gaVjkG to the corners of the rug to help "weigh" down the rug. If you need something for the stairs and can't afford to have a runner installed right now, an economical option is these stair treads as long as you do NOT have a urethane coating on your floors

For your bathroom bath mat, I suggest a bathmat towel.

For your office chairs, you will want new casters to prevent damage to the floors, I recommend these casters, they say you will not need an office mat if you use them, and they are safe for multiple types of flooring. If you do want an office mat, look at these glass mats for under your chairs. They are so beautiful! You will also need furniture coasters for the bottom of your heavy furniture to prevent denting, I recommend these furniture coasters here https://amzn.to/3vkPK8R. The coasters are carpeted on the bottom, so there is no rubber that may cause floor discoloration. They even have "furnigear" for your chairs too! Find the chair guards here https://amzn.to/3wvPuUJ. For the appliances, super sliders have an option here

For the outside, it is recommended to have 2 door mats with short and long bristles to get off most stuck-on debris that could damage your vinyl floors. I recommend the door mat in the picture below, as it has bristles with spaces for the debris to collect in. The second mat is for when you clean and dry the first, so there is no period where you are "matless."

There are wonderful entryway spots to keep your shoes - here are a few options: bench with storage or a shoe cubbie/bench or a woven basket

Materials are not recommended to use on vinyl floors.

Rugs with Synthetic Rubber Backing

If it’s made of synthetic materials such as rubber that contain chemicals, then the area rug will certainly damage your vinyl plank flooring and cause discoloration. Chemicals can interact with the vinyl and cause discoloration.

If the area rug doesn’t have a back at all, such as one made of jute, then it’s not safe to use on your vinyl flooring. One way around this is to use a rug pad made of natural materials under the jute rug (see above). This will cushion the rug and protect the vinyl flooring at the same time.

Chenille is not recommended

Rugs that contain chenille fabric should not be placed on top of your vinyl planks. Chenille is a type of yarn that can leave stains and residue once it is exposed to chemicals.

Additionally, rug pads made of chenille are also not recommended.

All I ever heard about LVT was how “indestructible“ they are and now I read and hear of ALL that is required to care for and prevent major damage, voided warranties due to inappropriate care, etc! My friend simply dropped a small 8”x10” picture frame on (CoreTec!) LVT and it scratched it! Not impressed.

I agree vinyl can dent, tear, gouge and discolor. Laminate AC4 and above with aluminum oxide coating or porcelain tile are better options. Thanks!
